More advice for new authors from Sarah Woodbury

Forgive me- I've said in the past that I don't want to write about Insider Baseball topics that only writers and authors care about. However, the story the New York Times ran last week about David Mamet self-publishing his latest work seems to have finally validated indie publishing.

(As an aside, the story the Times broke is not new at all: it's been well-known by anyone who was paying attention that the indies who do best right out of the gate are those who were previously published by traditional houses. Not necessarily big names like Mamet, but those who have a reasonably deep backlist of titles that have reverted back to them. As I read things, it's not the name recognition from their previous life with a publisher as much as it is that more titles mean more visibility and opportunity.)

Sarah Woodbury, whom I've had the pleasure of interviewing on this blog, is an indie success story. If you're thinking of self-publishing, go read her advice right now.
